Biography

Debra Watts F.B.D.O. Dispensing Optician
I graduated in 1983 as a Fellow of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians and managed 2 practices in Tidworth and Marlborough for Rayner Opticians. In 1985 following the birth of my first daughter, I returned to do locum work for Rayners in Andover and 2 independent practices in the New Forest. I then moved to Oman in the Middle East for 5 years where I taught English as a Foreign Language to Omani Police and Air Force Officers.

In 1993 I returned to Andover and worked for 6 years in 3 independent practices in Wiltshire. In 2000 I started work for Leightons Opticians in Andover and was appointed Manager in the same year and a Director of the company a year later. In 2006 I decided to start my own business and had intended to open an optical practice in Andover but I was pipped to the post by Vision Express. Instead I opened a B & B business which was phenomenally successful and surprisingly good fun. Alongside this I worked as a locum Optician in Surrey. I have always had a strong following of patients, friends and family who relied on me for optical dispensing and it was they who finally persuaded me to set up my own practice, Ringlands Optics.

I am a strong believer in community participation and have served an Independent Advocate in Andover. I am currently Chair of Governors at a local infant school. Many people have a low opinion of the town that we live in but I happen to think that we have a strong local identity and are lucky enough to live in a beautiful area surrounded by some of the most stunning countryside in England.
In my spare time I am a Beekeeper and love walking in the local Test Valley countryside.
